As with many aftermarket part manufacturers, Tomei was born out of competitive motorsport and has since gone on to create some of the most sought-after JDM parts on the market. One inherent weakness of the RB26 is it's oil pump. Unable to provide adequated levels of oil in particularly high performance modified examples, the poor oil pressure causes the bearings to wear abnormally. Another weak point is the sintered metal the factory pump gears are made from, which is prone to failure at prolonged high RPM or at high horsepower. A failure in this gearing can ruin an entire engine.
The Tomei oil pump features a much larger gear made from high strength materials, capable of providing the engine with increased flow at a more reliable level.
