Spoon Sports Progressive Lowering Springs, for Honda Civic Type R FL5
The Spoon Sports Progressive Spring, part number 51400-FL5-001, is an irregular-pitched, barrel-shaped lowering spring set for the Civic Type R FL5, with spring rates about 10% above standard.
Spoon tested the stock FL5 on circuits, winding roads and city streets. The set-up is aggressive with very high roll stiffness, but on track the roll can fail to build smoothly on corner entry, and on the road the car can feel a little too hard. These springs aim to improve sporting performance at every stage while keeping the ride comfortable.
The 20mm drop lowers the centre of gravity and adds rebound stroke, so the car deals better with gaps and undulations. More coils and a longer length of steel lower the load needed to start the spring moving, and the irregular-pitch barrel shape tunes how the rate builds. The rate stays low early in the stroke for town comfort, then rises under deep, high-load compression at speed.
