The Spoon Thermostat benefits from a reduced operating temperature trigger to allow it to commence opening at a lower temperature and then reach full open at an again reduced temperature.
The water temperature at which the engine can produce the most efficient power is 70 to 80°C, but if it rises above that, a sudden drop in power occurs. This is because the ECU controls the increase in fuel and ignition timing retardation to prevent knocking in the combustion chamber due to the rise in water temperature.
Genuine Honda: Opening temp 78°C / Full open temp 90°C.
Spoon Sports: Opening temp 68°C / Full open temp 81°C.
