The Spoon Thermostat benefits from a reduced operating temperature trigger to allow it to commence opening at a lower temperature and then reach full open at an again reduced temperature.
Engine water temperature is one of the major factors that affect engine performance. If the water temperature is too low, the clearances of each part of the engine will be out of the proper range, and the engine will not perform as expected due to increased friction. If the water temperature is too high, it will overheat and lead to transition to fail-safe mode, distortion of the cylinder and cylinder head, and engine blow.
Genuine Honda: Opening temp 78°C / Full open temp 90°C.
Spoon Sports: Opening temp 68°C / Full open temp 81°C.
