Each K20C engine begins its life with a complete inspection and preparation process. The cylinder block and cylinder head are carefully deburred to eliminate sharp edges that can cause stress concentrations or release microscopic metal fragments into the engine. This attention to detail ensures long-term reliability and consistent performance.

The rotating assembly is where Spoon’s craftsmanship truly shines. The pistons, pins, and connecting rods are weighed and balanced to within 0.02 grams per cylinder. In total, these moving components weigh around 1,100 grams, with a tolerance difference of only 0.002% between cylinders. For comparison, a stock Honda Type R engine allows up to 0.2% variation. Spoon sets the bar 100 times higher, achieving a level of precision that minimizes vibration and imbalance. The result is an engine that revs effortlessly and feels remarkably smooth, delivering a refined, linear response that can’t be captured in numbers alone.

Precision Clearance Management

Achieving true performance requires more than power. It demands total control over tolerances. The K20C combines lightweight aluminium and durable iron components to achieve both strength and efficiency. The block features cast-in iron cylinder sleeves within an aluminium structure, while the pistons are aluminium and the crankshaft, camshafts, and valves are made of iron.

Because aluminium and iron expand at different rates under heat, managing the clearances between these parts is critical. Spoon engines are assembled in a temperature-controlled clean room where conditions are kept perfectly consistent throughout the year. This environment allows technicians to measure and adjust every clearance with absolute accuracy, ensuring stable performance under any temperature.
