The seventh generation Evo was the beginning of Mitsubishi’s post millennial design, greeting the automotive world in 2001.

This particularly stunning 2001 French Blue Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VII GSR was freshly imported from Japan by us in early 2023, a Grade 4 car from USS Tokyo. A special car, as French Blue was only available on the Evo VII… it looks stunning in the flesh!

The car had a major service on arrival to the UK, going through the Torque GT workshop, we carried out a cambelt service, water pump & spark plugs. Further to this we also serviced the Active Centre Differential, Active Yaw Control and Rear Diff. Transfer case, gearbox and brake fluids were also replaced.

The following modifications have been applied...

The car has covered a mere 44,711 miles since 2001!

Compared to its predecessor the Evo VII body shell was given extra spot welds allowing a 50% higher torsional rigidity. The handling was also improved with a wider front track and increased suspension travel.

Mitusbishi continued to use the legendary 4G63 engine in the VII… I mean, why wouldn't they! Minor tweaks included hollow camshafts, smaller turbine nozzle (to improve response), higher flow intercooler with water spray, a larger oil cooler and a variable back-pressure exhaust.

The VII debuted Mitusbishi's radical changes to the 4WD system. The Mitsubishi boffins worked their magic and gave the VII a new, cutting edge electronic-controlled active centre differential (ACD) along with Active Yaw Control (AYC).

Following on from the Evo VII, came the VIII & IX which continued to perfect the Evo recipe. Now though, in 2023 we think the angular Evo VII is really coming into its own…
