The FL5 is the hot hatch of the moment! The latest incarnation of Civic Type R is touted as the greatest yet…

Since its release it has smashed FWD records at Suzuka and the Nürburgring, plus has glowing five star reviews from pretty much every motoring journalist that’s got behind the wheel.

It’s the current king of the hot hatch world and we don’t see that changing any time soon.

Available in the showroom we have this Rallye Red (R-513) Honda Civic Type R (FL5) with 6,943 miles on the clock. A close to stock example with the exception of the following upgrades…

Scorpion exhaust with carbon tips

HEL Performance Oil Cooler Kit

EBC RP-X Brake Pads

This is Honda at its absolute best, a masterclass in engineering! If you want an engaging driving experience look no further. The powertrain and chassis is a match made in heaven. Also in this day and age, the only option is a 6 speed manual, which is a true indication of Honda’s ethos and intentions..

Compared to the FK8 which had a marmite look for many, the FL5’s design is cleaner with an overall more classy silhouette. The more upmarket design continues with the interior, with a far more luxurious feel compared to the FK8. However, Honda has intentionally kept it very driver focused, including an exceptional set of Type R bucket seats.

Honda’s strive to continuously improve shows with the FL5. Instead of a complete overhaul, they’ve taken the FK8 (A fantastic platform) and continued to develop.

Now for the nerdy numbers… The FL5 uses the same K20C1 engine as the FK8, running 324 bhp and 310 lb-ft (8bhp and 15 lb-ft more than the FK8). The 2.0 litre unit is now more impressive than ever!

There’s an 18% lighter flywheel, reducing inertia off the end of the engine by 25% which makes the car noticeably more responsive.

Other upgrades include an exhaust flow rate which is up 13%, the steering column now has a larger torsion bar reducing deflections by 60%, revised lower suspension arms improve camber rigidity by 16%, rear body rigidity is up 15% and a switch from steel to aluminium for the bonnet accounts for a 43% weight saving.

Honda’s attention to detail is second to none. They’ve even added a heavier 230g gear knob to create an absolutely sensational gear change - it's peerless.

If you really care about driving, this is the hot hatch for you!
