The car you see before you is a Super Samuri built by UK tuner Spike Anderson in the 1970’s.

One of a final pair; The only two Super Samuri based on the 260Z 2+2 platform. We are extremely proud to bring you this incredible example. A legend very nearly lost to the pages of history....

Background

Spike Anderson trained in the 1960’s with Broadspeed, building 10,000 rpm Minis that were unbeatable in their day. In 1973 Spike started his own business; Race Head Services, one of the first cars to benefit from his experience, a humble Datsun 1200 from which he managed to extract an outrageous 105bhp! This became the first car to carry the “Samuri” name, a deliberate mis-spelling as the ‘Samurai’ trade name was not available.

Spike acquired a brand new Datsun 240Z, liked the car but thought it down on power. He quickly worked his magic, gas flowing the cylinder head, installing triple Weber carbs, a custom exhaust manifold and tuned suspension - The first “Super Samuri” was born.

Tested with great acclaim in Motor Sport Magazine by Clive Richardson (who took it to 140 mph!) putting the 200+bhp Datsun in direct competition with Porsche’s 911S, at a fraction of the cost.

Spike turned back to racing; His original car, named “Big Sam” was launched into competition in the 1974 Modsports Championship. Porsche of Great Britain entering a full works Carrera 2.7RS hurried over from Germany to frighten the lowly Datsun off and assert dominance.

When the Porsche broke down in the final race “Big Sam” with driver Win Percy won the championship by a single point! Setting four lap records over the season and becoming the first Z car to win any championship outside Japan and the USA.

Spike launched the Samuri Motor Company, building modified 240Zs for the road making 75 cars, many of which saw plenty of track action. There are some glorious images if you search for them.

These were followed by the production of only two 260Z Super Samuri (before sadly Spike and his Company ran out of resources). Featuring an L28 engine, gas flowed head, hot camshaft, exhaust system, perfomance brakes, body kit and two tone paint scheme.

This Samuri was fully restored alongside another 240Z Super Samuri from the ground up by well known specialist Duncan Pearcey’s Z-Farm in 2014/15. Although the records of this restoration are no longer available it has been confirmed that aside from a full body strip/dip/repaint, the engine, gearbox, differential, brakes and steering were all overhauled at the same time. The commissioning owner was clearly a dedicated Samuri/Z fan!

Since restoration this Samuri has led a very gentle life, covering less than 1,000 miles. Some fettling and general tune setup with a resultant dyno session recording a healthy 212.9bhp – A satisfying increase from the original Datsun factory spec of 139bhp!

This car is utterly sublime, with superb paintwork, wearing correct Wolfrace slot alloys with 205/70/R14 tyres, and impeccable original interior.

As you would expect, with the increased power and other mechanical modifications the car sounds glorious, is properly quick, and turns heads wherever it goes.

In summary:
