To operate an engine efficiently, it is necessary to take in dense air. Whether it is a naturally aspirated engine or a turbocharged engine, we knew from experience that "lowering the air temperature = increasing the air density" is very effective in improving engine efficiency.
Therefore, we prototyped an air intake duct as a device to lower the intake temperature, and after actual driving tests and bench tests, we put it into a race. The carbon air duct's effectiveness was demonstrated in the race, and it was well received by drivers for its torque and ease of driving across the entire range, and it also had better fuel efficiency than expected, winning the class. After that, we made improvements to each part based on the data obtained from the race and completed the carbon air duct.
The carbon air duct consists of two parts. One is an air scoop that is placed inside the front grille to block the surrounding heat and take in air. The other is an air duct plate that leads fresh air to the air cleaner box inside the engine room. The normal intake layout is designed to take in air inside the front grille, so when cornering or other low speeds, it is affected by the radiator and takes in air that is hotter than the outside air. By providing a large air scoop toward the end of the grill, air can be taken in through a path independent of the surroundings, so that outside air that has not been heated by the radiator can be taken in directly. In addition, the wind while driving is also utilized to actively guide outside air to the air cleaner box. The air duct plate in the engine room guides the air taken in by the air scoop to the air cleaner box without letting it escape.
While taking advantage of the standard intake layout, which has high heat insulation and excellent output characteristics across the entire range, this carbon air duct further reduces the intake temperature and provides stable output, so you can fully enjoy the highly efficient FK8.
The air scoop is made of FRP, and the air duct plate is made of prepreg carbon/Kevlar. It can be installed on both the standard bumper and the SPOON aero bumper.
In order for the engine to run efficiently, it needs to be fed with a sufficient amount of air. Whether it is a normally aspirated or a turbo engine, taking in cooler air = higher density air allows the engine to run with more efficiency. Something we all know from experience. Materializing our ideas, we produced prototypes of our air intake duct, testing them on our cars and on the bench. For the ultimate test, we installed the air duct to our racing car and ran the 25 Hours at Thunderhill. The effectiveness of the air intake duct was obvious All. our drivers came back with positive feedback, experiencing good torque at all rpms making the car easier to drive. Also, with higher-than-expected fuel efficiency, we were able to finish the race first-in-class. Using data obtained from racing, final modifications were made to finally produce the SPOON SPORTS Carbon Air Duct.
Our Carbon Air Duct comes in two separate parts. The air scoop placed inside the front grille, helps to shutout hot air accumulating in the engine bay. The air duct plate placed inside the engine bay delivers fresh air to the air cleaner box. With the stock air intake configuration, air is taken in from inside the front grille, possibly including air heated from the radiator, especially in low-speed corners. By placing an air scoop at the very front of the grille, our product ensures the flow of clean air unaffected from the radiator as well as actively taking in airflow from driving. The Air Duct Plate placed inside the engine bay ensures delivery of clean air from the air intake scoop. Without disturbing the well-designed heat insulation structure of the stock intake layout, our Carbon Air Duct helps to secure cooler and stable flow of air for maximum power output of the FK8.
The Air Scoop is made from FRP and the Air Duct Plate is made from Prepreg Carbon/Kevlar. Compatible with both the stock bumper or the SPOON Aero Bumper.
