A 296 bhp turbocharged boxer, symmetrical all wheel drive and factory Bilstein suspension, all wrapped up in an estate body that will carry the dog, the tip run and the weekly shop without complaint. The Subaru Levorg 2.0 GT-S shares far more with the Levorg STI Sport than the price difference suggests.
UK buyers never got this car. The Levorg was only officially sold here with the 1.6 litre engine, so every 2.0 on British roads came over the same way this one did, imported directly from Japan.
What Makes This Levorg 2.0 GT-S Special
Under the bonnet is the FA20 DIT, a 2.0 litre direct injection turbocharged flat four producing 296 bhp and 400 Nm of torque from just 2000 rpm. Power goes to all four wheels through Subaru's Lineartronic transmission with paddle shifters, and SI-Drive gives you three modes to work through, from relaxed Intelligent for the commute up to Sport Sharp when the road opens up.
GT-S specification adds factory Bilstein sports suspension and Active Torque Vectoring, which uses the braking system to tuck the nose into corners rather than letting it push wide. The result is a chassis far more capable than the estate silhouette suggests.
The Budget Levorg STI
Put the GT-S spec sheet next to the Levorg STI Sport and the differences are almost entirely cosmetic. The STI Sport adds an exclusive front bumper and grille, STI badges front and rear, maroon and black leather with red stitching, larger exhaust tips and its own 18 inch wheel design. The only mechanical change is a set of STI coil springs on the same Bilstein dampers.
So the maths is simple. Buy a GT-S, add a set of quality coilovers and fresh wheels and you have built a Levorg STI for considerably less. Arguably better, because proper coilovers from the likes of Tein or Ohlins will outhandle the factory STI springs anyway!
This One in Particular
This is a 2014 Levorg 2.0 GT-S on the VMG chassis, imported directly from Japan with 61,270 miles on the clock and an auction grade of 4, presented in crystal black.
A previous owner in Japan clearly had the right idea too. It already wears genuine STI aero splitters and side skirts, and its new owner has finished it off with an original set of gold STI alloys.
It holds up as a daily as well, with an 8 way power adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, dual zone climate control and the full EyeSight driver assist suite with adaptive cruise. WRX pace during the week, tip runs at the weekend.
