Every now and then, a project comes along that reminds us why we love what we do. Recently, we had the pleasure of working with a returning customer, Daniel, who purchased a GVB series Subaru Impreza STi Spec C from our showroom back in 2021.
Already an impressive machine, Daniel had already had some tuning, but wanted to push its performance and handling capabilities even further, ready for more track action.
Daniel isn't just any car enthusiast; he's a dedicated petrolhead with a previous car history that reads like a who's who of modern classics. Alongside his Impreza, he also owns a Quaife sequential equipped, soon-to-be 1000hp Skyline R32 GT-R. With such a deep passion for performance cars and his current job role at KW Suspension looking after UK sales, Daniel had opted for the high-spec V4 Clubsport kit for his Impreza.
As we unpacked the KW kit, its visual impact was immediate, finished in KW’s signature purple and yellow with the stainless steel bodies. A few short hours later and the car's old suspension was removed and the new KW coilovers were installed.
Daniel wanted it set to KW’s highest recommended settings as this is a car he drives properly, meaning some decent ground clearance is required.
After the installation, we performed a full alignment to ensure the car’s geometry was spot-on. We double-checked all bolts and settings, ensuring everything was secure and ready for the road.
With the installation complete, it was time for the fun part. Situated on the edge of Dartmoor, we have the perfect terrain for an initial road test. Daniel was eager to see how his new suspension setup would perform.
The first thing that became apparent was the immediate improvement in ride quality. As we gathered speed, the ride became even more compliant with a real fluidity to how it dealt with the moorland's uneven road surface.
Even at lower speeds, the ride was smoother and more controlled, the ride isn’t unpleasantly crashy. The advanced damping technology absorbed shocks that would have been jarring before.
Daniel’s Impreza felt glued to the road, with minimal body roll and excellent feedback. Each corner was an utter joy, showcasing the superior damping characteristics of the KW Suspension.
When static, the car looked phenomenal, with an aggressive and purposeful stance. The Pearl White body sitting on BBS wheels makes for a stunning combination.
Earlier in Daniel’s Subaru ownership, we supplied and fitted a Fujitsubo A-R exhaust system, which sounds truly epic. With this and the new suspension setup, this car is one hell of a package.
The road test on the moors was the perfect way to showcase the capabilities of the new suspension setup. It’s moments like these that remind us why we love what we do: taking great cars and making them even better!
