The Micra is back and with a round of experience under his belt, we were expecting big things this weekend... We weren’t disappointed!
Round two at Donington was a huge step forward, with a P2 finish in class and a blistering 1:15 lap time - We’re talking supercar pace.
Ahh Donington. For three seasons, this track has found a way to stop me, with engine or handling issues always cutting the day short. This time, a new problem surfaced: the car, a high-powered, front-wheel-drive monster, refused to track straight under power.
I arrived with cautious optimism thanks to some fresh geometry tweaks by the legends at Rob Boston Racing and new traction bars. While the first practice laps felt disappointingly the same, a quick pit stop to remove the front wheel spacers made a night-and-day difference. The car was finally manageable, and I finished the session with a new personal best.
Then, disaster struck. While cooling down, the car yanked violently to the side with a loud knock. The passenger-side CV joint had seized, the intense heat vaporizing its grease until the boot exploded. Thankfully, I had spares. After a frantic twenty-minute fix, we were ready for the first Attack session.
The car felt incredible. I smashed my personal best by nearly four seconds with a 1:16.60. But the celebration was short-lived, as we discovered the new CV joint had also failed. We installed another, leaving just one spare. As a fine drizzle began, a condition I love, I set the fastest time in the next session before a gut feeling led me to check the driveline again. The third joint was gone.
With only forty minutes before the final Super Attack, it was all hands on deck for a last-minute thrash to install our final spare. We made it with moments to spare. After an early red flag, I found a clean lap and went for it, clocking a 1:15.66, another new PB. I was on provisional pole, but my closest competitor, Marc Donnelly, immediately went faster with a 1:15.1. Game on.
Adrenaline surging, I flipped the throttle map and armed the overboost, ready for the lap of my life. But as I flew into Coppice corner, I saw it: a shimmering line of oil across the track. The session was instantly red-flagged. Game over.
While the team urged me to go back out, I knew it wasn’t safe. I pulled the car in and called it a day. Second place. It wasn't the win, but it was an unforgettable day of high-stakes problem-solving. Despite the chaos, the car came alive when it counted. And with more upgrades planned before Brands Hatch, I can't wait.
It’s safe to say the Micra has come a long way since round one. With a few key tweaks and a better understanding of the car’s behaviour, it’s onwards and upwards from here. At these speeds, top-tier brakes are a must and for Eden, his Dixcel RA pads delivered exactly what was needed.
Check out his hot lap below!
With Brands Hatch on the horizon, the big question is will the Spicy Micra take P1 in class?
