We were lucky enough to be in Japan for Tokyo Auto Salon 2024 back in January where we saw Mugen showcasing the Civic Type R Group A and Group B kits, which had the crowds flocking! The Group A Kit has now officially debuted, with additional parts in the works.
The Mugen components for the FL5 are crafted under the ethos of "Extreme'R". honing in on Mugen's rich racing heritage and expertise gleaned from years of participating in motorsports, they've created some awesome products for the FL5. Tomoki Nojiri, known as one of Japan's best drivers, lent his expertise as a development driver for this project.
The Group A parts collection includes a range of aero upgrades, including vacuum molded PPE front splitter, rear diffuser and side skirts, available either pre-painted in Gloss black, or unpainted, as well as a GFRP + CFRP rear wing. The end result is up to 25% more downforce compared to the OE spec, whilst also having the same quality of fit as you'd expect from any Honda-made part.
The front under spoiler aggressively extends out from the vehicle, creating downforce while giving the FL5 serious presence on the road. This style continues with the side garnish and rear under spoiler. We're big fans of the pre-painted gloss black versions, helping to accentuate the car's low, wide profile...
You can't miss the dramatic rear wing... CFD analysis and rigorous track testing, along with a dry carbon end plate helps to significantly reduce weight.
The front bumper garnish adds further aggression, positioned at the front air skirt entrance. These aero components will be available in both glossy black and unpainted versions, with the rear wing exclusively in the latter.
On the handling front, the specially crafted 19-inch forged aluminium "FR10" wheels, developed in collaboration with BBS, offers optimal rigidity for the FL5. Compared to OE aluminium wheels, the FR10's are approximately 10kg lighter, finished in diamond black. Additionally, the racing nuts and racing lock nuts, forged from high-strength SCM435 steel, sport a distinctive tubular design...
The Performance Damper makes its mark, praised for its ability to mitigate car-body vibrations and enhance ride quality and steering stability, now tailored specifically for the FL5.
Interior options include the MS-C full bucket seats, supplied with rails for bolt in fitlment for both driver and front passenger, designed for weight reduction and enhanced support, featuring mesh fabric. Complementing these is the carbon centre consiole panel and alcantara gear knob, adding further Mugen kudos to the cabin.
In addition, Mugen also offer a range of accessories, such as sports mats, ventilated visors, hydrophilic LED mirrors, scuff plates, and door inner protectors.
To complement these styling parts and accessories, Mugen are also finalising additional components slated for release later this year, including the sports exhaust system, LED rear lights and sports steering wheel which were also showcased at Tokyo Auto Salon.
