Honda Accord Euro R - Daily Super Saloon!

Honda Accord Euro R - Daily Super Saloon! - torquegt

Mike Gratton |

It’s the early noughties, you’re a Japanese businessman looking for a new car. You have a passion for driving, yet still want to look more like an exec than a boy racer when rocking up to the office…

Luckily Honda had a great option! Released in 2002, the CL7 generation of the Honda Accord was given the go-faster treatment, creating the Euro R.

A four door saloon with the same running gear as a DC5 Integra Type R. K20A VTEC engine producing 220bhp, 6 speed manual gearbox & limited slip differential.

Over 20 years on from its release, we think the Euro R still makes for a fantastic value, daily JDM Q car. Having taken this Pearl White example out for a spin, we reminded ourselves why Honda called it the Euro R rather than Type R.

Honda gave the Euro R some extra suppleness, not found in a DC5 or EP3. However, it still rewards the driver with a very capable FWD experience, whilst remaing under the radar with its saloon silhouette.

People love these things as they have two personalities… Get in it after a long day and it can be a refined, comfortable commuter. On the flip side, it’s an engaging, VTEC screamer with agility that you may not expect in an executive saloon.

In the cabin, these are still really well screwed together, there’s a solid feel to everything. The fantastic set of Recaro bucket seats really add to the functional and non cluttered interior... It's a great place to spend time.

Yet, when the mood takes you, rev it out to 8,000rpm, let the Recaros hug you in place, flick through the sweet manual gearbox and you’ll soon be reminded that this subtle saloon carries the Type R DNA. It’s the best of both worlds!

However, if you want to give a Euro R a bit more edge, there’s a whole host of performance upgrades available through Torque Parts.

The following are a few popular upgrades, all of which we have in stock! From cosmetic tweaks to substantial mechanical modifications…

Now, what JDM car doesn’t look better with wind deflectors? We have Mugen Ventilated Wind Deflectors for the CL7. Easy to install, they are a nice addition to the exterior, whilst keeping wind and rain out of the cabin when the window is slightly open.

We couldn’t have a list of modifications and not include an exhaust system. If your Euro R has the standard exhaust and you're looking to upgrade, there’s only one option in our eyes - FUJITSUBO! This Japanese brand is one of the highest quality exhaust manufacturers on the planet and we’re proud to be UK distributors.

For the Euro R we’ve chosen the Fujitsubo Legalis R system… Designed as a street specific exhaust, the Legalis is designed to reduce weight, improve power and torque, whilst also giving a deeper exhaust note which isn't overly intrusive. Constructed from mandrel bent stainless steel, the Legalis R is an excellent system for those who want to replace their standard exhaust for a high quality aftermarket alternative, but don't want a loud or intrusive exhaust note.

Boasting minimal to no cockpit drone which affects many aftermarket systems, these exhausts are the perfect combination of quality, performance and comfort.

When it comes to Honda gear changes, it’s hard to imagine improving what is arguably the best in the business! However, Hybrid Racing’s Short Shifter gives the driver the option to personalise their gear shift… For instance, want your shifts a little shorter? This shifter can reduce throw anywhere from 5% to 45%!

Another cool, yet simple upgrade is the Spoon Blue Wide Rear View Mirror Glass. A  great interior modification. The insert fits into the factory housing, meaning there's no need to replace the entire mirror, and provides a wider field of view, as well as less glare.

Last but not least, we’ve picked out a GruppeM Ram Air Intake SystemWidely renowned as one of the best manufacturers of intake systems globally... Their unique carbon shrouds and intake chambers are instantly recognisable and not only keep your intake air cool and heat-soak free, but add a touch of racing style to your engine bay.

The Euro R makes for a fantastic blank canvas if you’re thinking about entering the aftermarket scene. Are you tempted by one yet?
