Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 vs R34: Racing Hero Vs Iconic Moviestar
Few cars carry the reputation and legacy of the Nissan Skyline GT-R. Across decades of development, the Skyline GT-R evolved from a touring car weapon into one of the most advanced performance cars of its era.

Two of the most iconic generations are the R32 GT-R and R34 GT-R, both powered by Nissan’s legendary RB26 twin turbo engine.

Right now, both of these Japanese performance icons are in the Torque GT showroom. So the question is simple. Which Skyline would you choose?
Nissan Skyline GT-R R32: The Original Godzilla

When the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 launched in 1989 it completely reshaped the performance car landscape.

Developed with Group A racing in mind, the R32 GT-R was engineered to dominate touring car championships. It quickly proved just how capable it was by achieving an incredible 29 consecutive wins in the Japanese Touring Car Championship. It did not just win races. It dominated them. This overwhelming success is exactly how the R32 Skyline GT-R earned its legendary nickname, Godzilla.

At the heart of the R32 sits the now famous RB26DETT twin turbo straight six engine. Officially rated at 280 horsepower due to Japan’s gentleman’s agreement, the real world output was widely believed to be closer to 310 horsepower.

Power is delivered through a five speed manual gearbox, paired with Nissan’s advanced ATTESA all wheel drive system and HICAS four wheel steering, giving the R32 exceptional grip and balance.

Compared to later Skyline generations, the R32 GT-R feels lighter, more mechanical and incredibly engaging to drive. Its raw character and motorsport pedigree make it one of the most desirable classic JDM performance cars today.
The example (NOW RESERVED) in our showroom is a 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R R32 that has covered just 52,000 miles.
Finished in Black, it features tasteful upgrades including:

• Apexi intake setup

Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V Spec: The Ultimate RB26 Skyline

By the time the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 arrived in 1999, the GT-R name had already achieved legendary status.

The R34 would go on to become one of the most recognisable Japanese sports cars ever built, thanks in part to appearances in Gran Turismo and The Fast and the Furious. However, its reputation is rooted in engineering as much as pop culture.
The R34 GT-R represented the most advanced evolution of the RB26 powered Skyline platform.
It introduced a stronger six speed Getrag manual gearbox, improved aerodynamics and an upgraded version of Nissan’s all wheel drive system known as ATTESA Pro, which includes an active rear differential for improved handling and traction.

One of the most iconic features inside the R34 is the multi function display, showing real time data such as boost pressure, temperatures and G forces, a feature that was far ahead of its time.
This 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 V Spec currently in our showroom has covered 62,700 miles and has been tastefully upgraded.
Key features include:
• Link G4 ECU
• HKS intake setup
• Advan AVS Model 5 alloys
• Professionally mapped to around 470bhp
This makes it a properly sorted example of the final RB26 powered Skyline GT-R, combining iconic looks with serious performance.
It is also one of the best priced R34 GT-R V Spec models currently available on the market.
Old School Hero or Modern Icon: Which One Would You Choose?

The R32 GT-R represents the beginning of the modern Skyline GT-R legend. Lightweight, raw and deeply connected to its motorsport roots.
The R34 GT-R V Spec is the ultimate evolution of the RB26 era. Sharper, faster and packed with advanced technology.

Both cars are now recognised as true JDM icons, each offering a different driving experience while sharing the same legendary Skyline DNA.
Our R32 is now reserved but the R34 is still up for grabs... If you are looking for a way into the GT-R platform these two are at a great price point, offering good value for money as far as Skylines go!
