When Toyota launched the GT86 in 2012 they did something nobody expected — they built a lightweight rear-wheel drive sports car with no turbos, no all-wheel drive and no interest in chasing a lap record. The whole point was feel over figures and for the most part it delivered exactly that. Sharp steering, a low centre of gravity and a chassis that rewards commitment made it genuinely special at a time when everything else was getting heavier and more complex.

The controversy was always the engine. 197bhp and a torque figure that only showed up near the redline meant you had to work hard for the fun. Most people either loved that about it or found it frustrating. The ones who loved it bought one and started modifying.

That is where the GT86 story really gets interesting. As a platform it responds brilliantly to the right upgrades and a well-built example with serious hardware behind it is a completely different proposition to a standard car.

This is not a standard GT86...

The modest factory power figures have been properly addressed with a Harrop supercharger, giving the flat-four genuine shove across the rev range rather than only coming alive near the limiter. Professionally mapped by Abbey Motorsport using EcuTek software, it also benefits from switchable maps, allowing you to tailor the driving experience depending on how you want to use the car.

Producing a confirmed 240bhp on the dyno, it delivers the extra grunt this chassis always deserved. An HKS exhaust system ensures it sounds every bit as good as it goes.

Having had just two owners from new, with the second owner keeping the car since November 2016, this GT86 has clearly enjoyed long term and careful ownership, backed up by extensive service history and documentation. This is a UK specification Toyota GT86.

Finished in metallic grey and sitting on gunmetal grey WedsSport TC105X wheels, the combination perfectly complements the car’s sporty aesthetic. A subtle ducktail spoiler completes the silhouette, while inside, the cabin remains driver focused with red stitching throughout, carbon trim and flashes of aluminium.

The boss kit gets 5 stars purely for coming with a torx key and a little leverage bar for it, top tier thinking that. Boss was quite delayed however I was immediately informed of this and continuously updated until it was delivered so it was no issue for me.

Package arrived promptly and the new B pipe was well protected in bubble wrap inside the factory spoon packaging. The first thing i noticed was the quality of the welds, then the serialised Spoon plaque, and the genuine honda gasket and spring bolt kit which is included. Fitment was straight forward with the right tools, and the spoon piece aligned perfectly with the standard cat and Spoon N1 backbox. The noise i would describe as OEM++. No drone at motorway speeds but in the vtec band it has that raspy race note. Perfect for around town but still fun in the higher rev range when you want to hear your Honda scream.

I rate it 5/5 and would recommend as a replacement for those sadly corroding factory B pipes.
