Donington Drama for Dan - Time Attack Round 2

With a love-hate relationship with this track, Dan wasn’t sure what to expect at Round Two of Time Attack. Promising performance mixed with a bit of bad luck made for a weekend that served as a gentle reminder of the adversities of motorsport.

Attack one, things didn’t come easy. Fighting understeer through the mid-speed stuff, he wrestled the Civic to a solid P2 finish behind a rival in a Lotus Exige... a tough matchup at a circuit like this.Attack Two brought the rain and a slick track, but oddly, that’s when Dan came alive. Despite the greasy surface, he was finding real pace, stringing together quicker sectors and building confidence. However, white smoke from the passenger wheel arch, initially dismissed as tyre smoke from a lock-up, turned out to be a leaking coolant pipe from the transmission cooler, forcing a scramble in the pits. With fresh clamps, a bled system, and the track drying out, Super Attack was looking good for a final attempt. Two laps in, charging into Old Hairpin, the rear let go. A wild moment on the grass and the coolant hose popped again, forcing Dan to retire.
What looked like potential head gasket failure, just turned out to be old clamps and coolant chaos. A frustrating end, but the FK8 will be back stronger for Round Three at Brands Hatch!
